The Australian National University has unveiled ground breaking research into public opinion showing that the public prefers science to sport and would like more money to be given to, wait for it, scientists of which ANU has many.

Australians are more interested in science than sport and feel that politicians are failing to listen to the advice of the nation’s scientists, according to the latest ANUpoll, released today.

The latest ANUpoll looked at public attitudes about science. It found that far from being a nation of sports obsessives, Australians would prefer to hear about health issues, medical discoveries and the environment in their news bulletins. However, the poll also found that the public felt poorly informed about science, are confused about climate science, and think politicians are too easily swayed by media reaction when they should be listening to scientists.

It’s all about how you ask the questions.

Having said that, if I were king we’d immediately end all funding of elite sport, give half the savings to junior sport programs, and the other half to consolidated revenue to fund the important work of government (including science).

Mind you that could be the first ground breaking research out of the ANU in a while

Perhaps there would be more if they had more money…

Unfortunately I suspect public response to surveys != public actual behavior

The voting so far’s restoring my faith in my fellow smartarses.

The back of the paper is still the first part most Australian men head to.

Mind you that could be the first ground breaking research out of the ANU in a while 😉
