Anyone aware of any ghost sightings on the Barton Highway?

Almost 1 year ago my husband and my daughter and myself left our home on the southside of Canberra at about 5am heading out for a roadtrip to Adelaide.

The weather was foggy and somewhere between Gold Creek and the big ranch with the long white fencing and roses, my husband and I witnessed what we both believed to be a ghostly figure of a man crossing the road in front of our car, he appeared to be wearing jeans and was aged around 50-60 yrs old.

It was definitely a man who appeared transparent and crossed quickly directly in front of our car, had it been a live person my husband and I both believe we would have hit him! We were both a bit freaked but not scared and felt a very calm feeling at the time.

Does anyone have any info relating to sightings of ghosts along this stretch of the highway ?

That’s so weird me and my partner were travelling down the federal highway about two weeks ago about 15 km past the exit from gume to federal when a transparent type figure darted out onto the road and almost looked like it was trying to get out of our way when we collided with it and ran it over…I nearly lost control of our little yaris when we drove over it. We didnt mention anything to anyone until we found this post….

This is a strange thread. You have a posting by Wally 11 seemingly in good faith, followed by several narrow minded individuals ‘extracting the urine” and now its turned around to talk of a ghost hunting trip! Whatever your beliefs, few subjects on RA generate as much interest as the paranormal. (or is it normal?)

+1 for the ghost hunting trip!

Me four – Thumper, I’m sick of waiting for this bloody book! You should turn it into a blog or some sort of newspaper serial – then you don’t need to write it all at once 🙂

Yep, but I need to get it into some sort of order first 😉

me three?

the “ranch with the white fences and roses” is “capircon stud”

Thumper – Ill touch base on FB – just saw your message above…

Thumper, any chance of a “me too” on that offer?

Some guy at Ceroc the other night accused me of sucking his memory out. I thought that was kind of impressive and paranormal. He said, “You! It was you who I forgot all the moves with last time!”

Coincidence? I think not!

WTF? Random comma’s? I didn’t do that, I’m sure… it must have been the ghost in my PC.

Thumper – can I get an advance copy too? I lurve ghosty stuff.

BTW my wife used to run Collins Booksellers in the Mall for 17 years (i.e. when it was still a success – Collins not the mall) and may have some publishing contacts I can pass to you.

PS: sorry for seperating you from your partner in civic couple of weeks back I hope you found her!. I just thought I’d say ‘hi’ while you were passing, Granny and I.

I was driving along the Barton highway early one morning, where the road is dual lane. The was a Canberra driver in the left hand lane, driving at the speed limit. They used the indicator and then turned off.

I think it was a ghost.

Nope that was me. I’m certain of this because as observed previously I’m the only Canberran to drive at the speed limit, just ask me.

No idea. I’ve just started working on it again. I got bored and carried away with other projects 😉

Right Thumper, I’m giving you until the October school holidays to have it published. I need it for my Haunted Canberra class :P~

thumper, just pad it out with a few photos…

Or perhaps test bed it as a blog. You may recieve more leads from readers and you’ll get a an indication of the level of interest in the subject.

Yeah it’s ghost of old man Jones who was burnt to death by the founders of Cockington Green because he had a rival miniature land on the present site of the George Harcout Inn. There’s thems that say his ghost appears at this time every year.

Pity his ghost’s only 3″ tall and keeps getting trodden on.

maybe you need….. (wait for it) a ghostwriter?

you knew we were all keeping away from that comment in the “spirit” of the thing, don’t you?

Ranch??? I think you took a wrong turn & ended up in the USA somewhere!

Wally11, This thread is without doubt the most insanely idiotic thing I’ve ever heard or read about. We are all now dumber after having read this thread.

Thumper, any idea when we might be able to read this book of yours? You’ve been talking about it for ages, and I’d be keen to purchase a copy 🙂

I’ve lived in Yass most of my life and use the Barton Highway all the time but I’ve never seen a ghost along there or heard of anyone who has. The stretch of Hume Highway between Bookham and the Burrinjuck turn-off is pretty well known for ghost sightings though.

That story about the old man getting burnt to death is a cracker. Nothing like a rival minature land on your front doorstep to spur on a spot of murder.

I’ve seen a similar thing on the same stretch of the Barton Highway, although not quite as clear. Both times I thought I saw a figure cross in front of the car and slammed on the brakes. I think I had convinced myself that it was just shadows, but it was more than a little freaky.
