Anyone driving to Melbourne with room for 2 small parcels?

Hi folks

We need to get two small boxes (about 40cm x 30cm x 15cm) of glass tiles transported from Red Hill in Canberra to Fitzroy in Melbourne.

Are there any Rioters heading this way in the next couple of weeks?

They are too fragile to trust to commercial removalists.

We’d be happy to make a substantial contribution to petrol costs.

Wasn’t it you who asked Schappele Corby to carry your bogey-board to Bali?

A bogey board? Jeez, even I wouldn’t ride one of those.

What about if i’m going down next week, but not past Fitzroy? Will *they* come and get them from elsewhere in Melb?

Thanks, and sure! If plan A with Winter doesn’t work out, I’ll get in touch. What part of the city would you be staying?

Brighton. Reply here if still needed, and it could help!

…The green rays emerging from your computer or phone are pure envy, sent by me. I used to live in Fitzroy too, about five centuries ago. Canberra has nothing like those suburbs. Sigh and cry…

What are you talking about, neither has an AFL team. 😉

@winter- fantastic, I’ll email you..

@Nickamc- thanks for the offer, but they is heavy buggers, wouldn’t want to put you to that inconvenience

@poetix- you’re not wrong, wish we could have moved back here years ago…

Driving down on Thursday morning and staying in East Melbourne and South Yarra so wouldn’t be a problem to drop them off. Let me know on wintered@gmail.com.

What is wrong with http://greyhoundfreight.com.au?

I reckon they could do the job?

Probably, but I wouldn’t be too confident they’d arrive in one piece.

Why wouldn’t it? Mark it as fragile and put some padding around the box and it should be ok… Certainly wouldn’t be any worse than giving it to some random who then averages 150km/h around the corners and simply has the box sitting in their boot unrestrained.

Hey ramblingted,

I’m driving down there on Thursday (leaving first thing in the morning) and am also staying in East Melbourne so shouldn’t be a problem to drop them off. Let me know (wintered@gmail.com) if you want me to move them.

Sounds like a great excuse for a road trip.

I’d happily take a subsidised trip to Melbourne if I had some time off. Which I sadly don’t right now.

Surely in these days of ebay, you’d be able to find a freight company which will do ad-hoc deliveries without requiring an account to be set up.

As for “A completely random person”- no, a fellow Rioter. – considering there is something like 100,000 fellow rioters I’d hazard a guess that at least one or two of them are dodgy…

So let me get this straight, you want a completely random person who you’ve never met to move something “very fragile” interstate without them truly knowing what is inside the box because you don’t trust a removalist? What about a sensitive freight company?

Personally there is no way I’d ever consider transporting something for someone I don’t know and only met on the internet, even if customs and drug detector dogs are probably not going to be involved along the way.

Freight company? Two we have tried won’t do it unless we have a regular account.

I guess we all have different levels of trust in our fellow man…but if its an issue I’d be happy to get the boxes sealed once you (and your detector dog) have had a good sniff..
