Anyone get IKEA delivered recently?

I’m heading to Ikea in Sydney on the weekend, and won’t be able to bring everything back in a trailer. I’ve seen the local “buy and deliver it for you” service, but their pricing is a bit much.

I know last time I was there the Homebush store delivered to Canberra for a flat fee of around $275. What I’m wondering is, has anyone done this recently (preferably from the Tempe store), and if so, how much was it?

Hi I run a Ikea home delivery service, shopping at Tempe and delivering to Canberra. My prices start at $80. We go regularly and take a truck there to collect the bigger items. I know it’s too late now but you may choose to buy more items in the future. I normally post the dates we go on gumtree

You had to attend the shop in Sydney, yet they picked the stuff out? Bloody hell. Haven’t they heard of Thuh Internet? You can order online in the US.

Yes that part of the deal is a bit weird considering I did the shopping list online via their website, then printed it out and then drove it to Sydney just for them to enter it back into their system! Perth and Adelaide stores have online ordering for most (but not all) of their products so maybe they will soon catch up.

Factor in how much you have actually saved by shopping there and $260- $275 is not bad for delivery..A colleague just spent $550 getting a modular lounge suite delivered from Sydney made by a well known manufacturer. He had a 12 week wait.

Bit late but just had a load of furniture picked and delivered by IKEA Homebush. I just went with my printed out shopping list and handed it to someone on the floor for them to enter it into the system. It is $40 for them to pick the goods for you and $260 for delivery to Canberra (every Wed). The fees are fixed so if you want one desk or a whole house of furniture the cost is the same.

The process went fairly smoothly though it was a big wait to pay for the goods at the checkout and then another line to arrange the delivery. Everything arrived as expected and the service is certainly worth it if you have a bit of furniture to order and are willing to do the trip to Sydney.

I’m going to Sydney on the weekend, back on Sunday and have a ute. I’d be happy to bring stuff back for you, dependent of course, on size. My ute is a twin cab, so the tray is smaller than average.

+1 for community minded people!!

Install a towball onto your trailer and be a B-double for the day.

The WA & SA stores have an online purchasing system. Not everything can be purchased this way, so depends what you want, but worth a look and from memory it’s cheaper than the Sydney store fees.

Delivery from WA or SA might be a bit more expensive though. If it doesn’t fit in their trailer, I doubt it can be posted!

you could hire yourself a medium-sized van for a day for a lot less than $275

I think they also include a mileage cost beyond the first 100km? So you’ll have to factor that in.

And fuel too… I guess it depends how much IKEAness you are buying, and what the transport cost works out as a fraction of that.

OK, fuel you were spending anyway.

Excess K’s could indeed double the cost, though it’s still cheaper than the quoted delivery fee. There might be room to negotiate fees because some companies aoffer more included Ks per day than others..

Doesn’t answer your question but you could hire yourself a medium-sized van for a day for a lot less than $275*, drive up there, get your stuff and come back home…

* About $100 for 24 hours for 1.5tonne – about 12m^3. How’s that for size?

Gosh for the $275 wouldn’t it be cheaper to hire a transit van?
