Anyone know what happened in Jerra last night?

On my way home last night from a party I was driving up Lanyon Drive towards Queanbeyan at approx 11pm and five police cars flew past in the opposite direction all turning up towards Jerrabomberra.

Does anyone know what was happening?

one of my passengers suggested there must have been a big brawl at the Jerra pub, someone else said car accident but really would either warrant five cop cars?

el, I was being sarcastic. Besides, David Hicks could have being involved somehow. The burglar could have being the half cousin three times removed of the aunt of the adopted brother of David Hicks best friend from grade six.

Jerrabomerra is due for a canning & banning…

I don’t think ASIO will be investigating your burglary somehow – not unless David Hicks was involved.

“Except that they’re the Australian FEDERAL Police.”

I do not think the AFP has jurisdiction over local issues. The AFP leases the officers and equipment to the ACT Government so in affect, they’re like the former ACT Police we prior to the merger, just with a different logo. That said, if the AFP an they’re mates at ASIO want to drop by and find the thugs who burgled my house a while back, they’re more than welcome to.

Indeed ASP – that’s what concerns me – ACT tax/rate payers carrying even higher financial burden for cross-border commuters.
[Cue usual outrage from Qbyn posters… 🙂 ]

Plus I think it’s farcical that the Nation’s capital is not connected to the Nation’s no.1 highway/transport corridor.

From discussion with Kate Lundy this morning, she is keen to get the Very Fast Train link at least back on the agenda. Good on her. Got my support.

“Why? Jerrabomberra is NSW not ACT. The AFP have nothing to do with it.”

Except that they’re the Australian FEDERAL Police.

I heard they were investigating a complaint of aircraft noise from a Jerrabomberra resident.

Gungahlin Al,
“if not Yass”
Griffin’s original plan had a railway from Canberra to Yass and parts of his planning alluded to Canberra growing to include more of the surrounding region. Might see it happen in the next 50 years as the ACT reaches the limits of existing borders.

ASP: Yes, we do get a cheque from Macquarie St to cover the NSW patients in the ACT health system.

Anyone silly enough to do the posted speed limit on Fairbairn (60 km/hr) risks a severe tailgating by the ACT Police. I speak from experience.

Gungahlin Al2:48 pm 25 Feb 08

Make more sense to shift the border. Expand ACT out to include Qbyn, Bungendore and up to Murrumbateman, if not Yass. Then Canberra would be truly in heart of the catchment, and all such nonsensical cross-over issues would be things of the past…

“Tell him he’s dreaming…”

ACT Police rarely follow the speed limit. Even school zones, they ignore them often. Not saying all of them ignore the limits, just in my experience.

Queanbeyan is basically a suburb of Canberra. In my experience, the border won’t stop crews from the other side assisting if closer. Must say though, lot of NSW patients go to Canberra Hospital from the South Coast and Snowy region. Are we getting funding from NSW to cover the costs of treating non-NSW residents or is it like at the Hall School were we covered their tab.

Seems to make sense to combine resources when the bad guys don’t give a crap about the border.

As for the Qbyn issue, (and this is second hand info – so correct me if wrong) most Qbyn Police are sworn as AFP Special Constables, and many ACT are sworn as NSW Special Constables. This makes sense with the border so close. I am told that Qbyn dont responded to Gunghalin but on rare occasions go to Oakes estate, due to the proximity of Oaks to Qbyn.

I know its not conclusive. I shall try to find something more substantial

Aside from the three not-so-hilarious and very predictable attempts at humour above…

Tagline-worthy!

I understand (correct me if I am wrong) but the Queanbeyan police are all special constables of the ACT.

Not all I don’t think but most are.

Followed a NSW police car up Fairburn avenue once. He didn’t seem to care for Canberra speed limits

Since when have you seen any Police care for speed limits anywhere?

I understand (correct me if I am wrong) but the Queanbeyan police are all special constables of the ACT.

Really? Can anyone confirm that?

ari, if only you knew mate, if only you knew. You’d eat your words.

You’d be suprised how many times NSW have to go into the ACT for enquiries, deliver subpoenas, and generally do their day to day work.

And yes, a lot of patients are taken to the Canberra Hospital from all over… it’s not uncommon to have a Cooma ambulance come up.

You do get AFP cars in Queanbeyan a bit too.

“Why? Jerrabomberra is NSW not ACT. The AFP have nothing to do with it.”

I stand corrected. Though someone should tell the NSW police that, every second day, I see NSW police cars traveling around Woden. NSW ambulances in the ACT I can understand, they transport people to CH all the time. NSW Police driving on the main roads and sometimes in the burbs, parked at Woden and Manuka on our side of the border?

I saw a few cop cars around a crash when driving last night along Tompsitt Drive.

Yeah that was it, I was listening to the scanner at the time that it happened 🙂

el ......TECortina 250 Deathtrap4:27 pm 24 Feb 08

Yeah, I know…

el … you’d better stop using such obscure words, it confuses people like CanberraResident

if it was anything, we’ll probably see a media release next week on the AFP website.

Why? Jerrabomberra is NSW not ACT. The AFP have nothing to do with it.

To expand, the police had a report of persons trapped serious accident… but it wasn’t that bad when they got there.

It was just an accident on Tompsitt Drive, no one severely injured.

Ok, enough humour.
if it was anything, we’ll probably see a media release next week on the AFP website. There getting quite good at making media releases on even relatively minor things these days, they’re being a lot more open.

el ......TECortina 250 Deathtrap2:32 pm 24 Feb 08

Well that was rather self aggrandising.

CanberraResident2:16 pm 24 Feb 08

Aside from the three not-so-hilarious and very predictable attempts at humour above, I’d be interested to know what happened in Jerra too. After all, this is RiotACT remember … Canberra News, Information and Opinion. Yeah?

V8 Berlina with a three tier spoiler1:29 pm 24 Feb 08

Noooooooooooooooooo! Save the Krispy Kremes!

A donut truck overturned?

nothing was happening unless you count the fact that they had found out where the free beer was!
