Facet has sent this in for anyone who likes to rescue plants:

To all those gardeners who like to relocate plants, this self seeded Mirabella Plum tree (Nancy variety) has been marked for extermination (the blue spray paint).

It produces a small, oval shape, smooth-textured flesh plum which is nicer than any other I have tried it is located at 35 degrees 13.341 minutes S, 149 degrees 06.497 minutes E.

Now is the ideal time to rescue this useful tree.

Note there are two tree a larger and smaller one. The shrub on the left is a privet tree and deserves to die.

Send us a picture if you make the relocation.

Opposite the corner of Staaten Crescent and Apsley Place in Kaleen is a walking path going south. Walk down this path (approx 120m) until you reach a T intersection with another walking path. The tree is just behind the lamp post.
I recently watched the “Botany of Desire” program on the ABC and saw that growing an apple tree from seed more often than not produces a sour apple. Does this apply to plums? Should I try to grow one from a cutting?
Wikipedia has an interesting write up on this plum which is a specialty of the French region of Lorraine. I have never seen any pests or grubs in the fruit and the leaves are green (as opposed to the usual dark purple).

I had a look for the tree yesterday evening to no avail. The location above seems to be an empty paddock bounded by the Barton Highway, Nanima rd & Spring Range rd.
Can you provide any further clues Facet?

There is another way –

Buy some blue spray paint – and have a field day on lots of other trees

Big mistake on my part was to tell my neighbours about it, they got all the fruit last year before me. I believe I have managed to start growing one from seed. I asked chainsaw guy to spair the tree (which he did first time around) but I think he may have been overruled by blue spray guy (management).

If its a self seeded tree you might have a go at striking hardwood cuttings.
