The National Capital Authority is trumpeting the home stretch in their massively disruptive complete re-surfacing of Anzac Parade.

Southbound lanes of Anzac Parade will reopen by midday tomorrow as the final phase of current roadwork begins.

Work will continue along the verge and the median island of Anzac Parade. Road signage will be adjusted to complement the changed traffic conditions.

A 40km/h speed limit will still apply until works are complete…

Concrete barriers onsite will be removed by Monday 16 March. Until then, northbound traffic along Anzac Parade will still be restricted to one lane and access across Anzac Parade between Blamey Crescent and Currong Street will remain closed.

I’ve modified my trip home so that it only costs me an extra 3 or 4 minutes. I feel sorry for those that have to go up it instead of across it. I did that a couple of times and quickly learned my lesson.

Nah that’s the finish date / deadline.

From the NCA

Anzac Parade will undergo a full depth road reconstruction over three years by the Australian Government. The work is being completed in three separate stages. Each stage will occur from November to the following April, over 2008/09, 2009/10 and 2010/11.

AussieGal83 they are basically rebuilding it from scratch as the current road has been there since the 60’s with only minor work done to it.

I do not know of any other road Authority in Australia that requires so much time to resurface a road, irrespective if it is full depth resurface or not. If they can keep roads open in Sydney when they resurface roads why do they need to close roads in Canberra? It still amazes me. And “the current road has been there since the 60’s (sic.)” [deye: you are talking plural here and not possessive or an omission of letters so you don’t use an apostrophe –just saying :)], so what?! The surface did not appear to require a complete reconstruction from my ignorant public observations when I used the road. There are a lot of roads in the ACT and nationally that require reconstruction that are just as old and have considerably more traffic. Wentworth Avenue for example. Even State Circle needs repair with it’s shocking road markings and piece-meal upgrades over the years.

I am also ever so curious how the median strip of Anzac Parade can be damaged like it has been when the whole precinct is supposed to be heritage listed?

mind you, six monthe to fix the south bound lane, and six, the north bound; what’s the final six months for?

What’s the road quality compared to, say, the GDE?

ps at least this stage – so maybe they’re ahead of schedule

yep deye, you’re right, the job was supposed be be done by Anzac Day.

Its seriously taking forever. Honestly, how long does it take to re-surface a road. Can’t they do it at like 1 in the morning?

Nah that’s the finish date / deadline.

If I remember correctly the next stage starts in November after Remembrance Day.

This is just the home stretch in part one. Part two commences after Anzac Day (they seem to be on track to complete the first part a month early).
