With the roadworks on ANZAC Parade gathering place the NCA’s warning that they’re pulling another switch:

The parade’s southbound lanes will be closed between Fairbairn Avenue and Constitution Avenue until April 2009. Access between Blamey Crescent/Currong Street and Anzac Parade will also be closed.

Traffic will be redirected 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Buses passing between Reid and Campbell on Blamey Crescent and Currong Street will pass around the works site via Constitution Avenue.

Vehicles will be redirected to the parade’s western lanes which will become two-way.

To minimise delays motorists are encouraged to:

    – take alternate routes
    – car pool
    – ride a bicycle to work
    – take public transport (visit www.action.act.gov.au for timetable information)

As the ancient Chinese curse allegedly goes, “May you live in interesting times.” Who could forget the NCA’s last great road job? The Limestone/Anzac roundabout and extension/upgrade from a single lane to a, well, single lane?

The other choice would be ACT Gov and their flagship effort, the Glenloch Interchange, and its shabby alignments, breaking up surface, and multiple lane markings causing grief at night and in the wet.

Plan your drive carefully.

btw, what is wrong with the surface of Anzac Pde in the first place? Was there a fundamental flaw in the pavement that requires resurfacing? Most other cities in Australia would kill for a three lane divided road with little to no potholes. I can name one of a number of other roads in more need to resurfacing than Anzac Pde. I am also interested in the potential damage to the road during the works given it has heritage listing status.

IIRC it is getting to it’s end of life and they are doing a total surface refresh down it it’s full depth so it last another 20 years of heavy usage.

I think I too am clever enough to work my way around this, my question is how many people are going to be thinking the same route and how many people who haven’t thought it out are going to get in the way!?!?!?!

Another glorious experience with the Canberra driver awaits.

Hmm, I think I can get around this so that my drive to work doesn’t become even more of a nightmare.

I like the implication that the only motorists that use ANZAC Pde are those commuting to work.

but surely anyone smart enough to operate a car can think of theses alternatives?

Geez – could their suggestions be any more patronising.

What would you suggest? “We encourage motorists to ignore this information, then whine when they are delayed?”

Seriously, it doesn’t sound patronising to me. They could say nothing I suppose, then get the inevitable “and what are we supposed to do” complaints.
