Anzac Parade to get worse this weekend

The National Capital Authority is warning that they’re closing Anzac Parade completely this weekend and fouling up Constitution Avenue in their seemingly never ending road works.

The National Capital Authority advises northbound, and southbound lanes of Anzac Parade from Parkes Way roundabout, to Blamey Crescent / Currong Street will be closed this weekend for reconstruction works.

Constitution Avenue will remain open to traffic during the works but may have traffic marshals controlling east-west traffic.

The road closure is scheduled to occur between 4:00am Saturday 2 April and 11.59pm on Sunday 3 April 2011.

They promise this is the final bitumen surface, weather permitting.

At least the NCA and the ACT government have discovered how to build decent bitumen roads without trying to stick loose stones onto the road with a little tar. The cost of windscreen and tyre damage to motorists must match the additional cost of doing it properly. Even developing countries don’t use the stone sticking method. Belconnen Way was completely transformed in just a few days recently with traffic able to travel at full speed with no loose stones in hours. The sections left to be done properly were treated with stone stick only a short time ago and now the stones are all in the gutter. Another benefit of proper bitumen is the reduction in traffic noise to nearby residents.
