Are there any decent HAND car washes in canberra

Well I’ve searched high and low for a decent hand car wash but all I can find a laser washes and brush washes and get yourself soaked by the dollar washes. I read somewhere that Waves and Gungahlin do handwashing but all I’ve seen when driving past is the brushes section and the self wash. I’ve heard that there’s a good one at Tuggeranong but I don’t get down to north cooma very often so its a bit out of the way.

I’m not talking about detailing here, I just want an ordinary run of the mill carwash done by hand and expect to be set back around 25 bucks. Surely there are some around but where are they hiding?

Tammets @ Braddon do the vacuuming by hand but have an automatic system with big nylon roller brushes. I took my car there a few months back and got a very ordinary job, had to re-vaccuum it properly myself afterward.

There is a new car wash (and pet wash too, apparently!) opened up recently in Tuggers called Pitt Stop Car Wash, though I think it is another machine rather than a hand one.

They are set up with 3 bays of DIY car washing, and 1 automatic brushless car wash. At the Calwell Shops.

Does that make Queanbeyan the new Batemans Bay? And is the Queanbeyan River the new Pacific Ocean?

Does that make Bungendore the new New Zealand? They both seem to have sheep…

Happy to explain my thinking over a beer sometime. Come down to All Bar on a monday night.

Other than that, seeing as I place the cartoons in the stories, you can assume I want them there.

Hey, what happened to the cartoons? I liked those.

Just back from two weeks in a part of Queensland that dosn’t have water restrictions … I will confess to indulging in more than one hand car wash … oh, the nostalgia, the intimacy between man and machine …

correction…. even though this thread was ages ago, but google might bring someone here….

i have been reliably informed that my brothers business, ACE detailing in qbn DOES hand washing.

and a damn good job he does too.

Do it yourself at Gungahlin. For about $8 it comes up a treat. Make sure you take a sponge, microfibre cloth and a chamois. Just using the high pressure hose is not enough.

The “cartoons”/”comics” have got to stop. They are lame and childish. Seriously.

I guess nobody will be surprised that I think they’re kind of charming?

JB, you wanna give us one of your (or apparently, our) beloved polls as to whether they rock or not? Failing that, maybe an article to introduce the artist, explain how they came to lurk about in the wilds of the RiotACT and give us one forum to share our opinions on the subject (there are a smattering of comments about them in just about every item atm).

I guess nobody will be surprised that I think they’re kind of charming?

Have a weekend in Merimbula. We don’t have any water restrictions at all, OR drive around the burbs until you find a sprinkler whizzing around on someone’s front lawn and borrow it for half an hour.

I like your thinking. Macquarie Pass et al. 😛

I’ve used the Target carpark guys a few times. I haven’t been entirely happy, particularly with the inside. They’ve broken clips on mats, and just been fairly slap-dash on the inside vacuuming and cleaning. However, they are relatively cheap, so working on high volume and a quick job, I suppose.

I’ve seen a couple of places in Melbourne that have bikini clad chicks was cars by hand. I’m hoping the craze may catch on here!!

I meant to add something on-topic: if you’re happy to pay $25, why not drive yourself down to the border of Eurobodalla Shire, where they’re only on level 1 restrictions, find a hose, and wash it by hand?

Nah, we need to wait for the sea levels to rise a bit first.

When Port Jackson Bay extends to Canberra our real estate prices are going to sky rocket, haha!

I was waiting for a joke about $25 handjobs … and there it is.

Does a paid hand-wash love your car long time?

Yeah the Canberra Centre / Target carpark one does a decent job.

Grundy, ever been to tinyurl.com? 😉

Oh yeah, I get it now, duuhhh. Same deal at Gungahs.

Isn’t there one in the Canberra Centre carpark? (The old one opposite where City Markets used to be – on the left of the main entrance to the Canberra Centre as you look at it from Ainslie Ave) – drive up the ramp into the carpark, and there’s a bay of parks immediately on your left that says somehting about valet/vip hand carwash.

Or, try Ecowash – they do an excellent job, using some kind of waterless system with spray bottles and static-lectrickery mops. Call them up and see when they’re likely to be near a carpark that you frequent – not sure if they do house calls though. http://www.ecowash.com.au – expect to pay $35ish for exterior clean, or $70ish for the full interior/exterior treatment (which is well worth it, imho, especially if you tend to let the inside of your car get a bit dusty, or you have a gravel/dirt driveway…)

The gungahs one will do a hand wash, but it’s a bit over your budget from memory – more like $35 I think. You can wait a bloody long time in the line though.

There is one in Braddon currently under renovations.

Give it another month before you wash your car and I suspect that place should be ready.

We’re going to give it a try when it opens!

The Tammetts car wash previously did the actual washing component automatically I thought. It was the prep before hand (vacuuming, wheels, windows etc) that was done by hand. After coming out of the wash the car is usually dried by hand.

But I haven’t ever used them, only had a sticky beak when walking past, so my info might be a bit dodgy. And their renovation plans may cater for a full hand wash service too?

In the highrise carpark above Target in Civic, people leave their cars on the first level as you get your entry ticket, and I see young folk scrabbling all over the cars washing them. So I figure that’s a hand wash.

Oh well, guess you can copy/paste that instead…
