Are you a ratepayer in the Eurobodalla Shire?

Many Canberra residents are non resident ratepayers of the Eurobodalla Shire. Currently there is an environmental issue unfolding that could affect you. A small but vocal lobby group of property developers have, with the support of the local member, Andrew Constance, been provided with the ear of Brad Hazzard, the state minister for planning. Reliable sources report that Hazzard is strongly considering removing all environmental overlays in the new Eurobodalla Local Environmental Plan, currently with the department of planning, at the behest of this small lobby group.

This means significantly reduced protection for wildlife corridors, native bush, sand dunes and many other natural landscape features. The Greens are now supporting a local campaign: ‘Hands Off Our Environment’ that counters the misinformation and bullying carried out by the Hands off Our Homes members.

I am not a Greens member but I am asking anyone who cares about the environment in the Eurobodalla to please read the website below and contact the Minister to convince him that the Shire is not totally comprised of small-minded self-interested yobbos who want to concrete over the entire region. You can read more about this issue, and view the leaflet that is going out over the next few days here:

Thank you HandsOff.

I think it’s important to recognise just how tied in to Canberra the Eurobodalla region is. With all the visitors from the ACT, some of whom are mad greenie ratepayers, you could almost argue that the region is dependent on Canberra’s public service for its viability.

Certainly many of the shops would close without hordes of Canberrans escaping their hideous climate. (Which does not mean anything about climate change, before anyone jumps in.)

typical greenie crap, i am a farmer on the southcoast and the amount of redtape caused by the greens involvement in the shire council has led to many of us packing it in and moving off the land. approval for anything in eruobodalla shire is impossible now but i forgot the public servant greens from canberra need to tell us how we should live in the country.

one day when all the food we eat is imported from china because labor has sold us out and every bit of land is locked away as environmentally endangered they loony green lobby might wake up but dont hold your breath

What do you mean “one day”? Just look at how impacted our agricultural areas are due to floods, irrigation issues, red tape etc. and how much of our supermarket foods are “packaged in Australia from imported products”. We are already dependent on China. With their economy growing stronger all the time it’s no wonder our food prices keep going up and up.
Totally agree with you on the other bit about Greenies too. Minority ruining it for the rest of us.

Thank god someone is, given the irreparable damage that unsustainable farming practices have done to this country.

CRAP. Australia exports several times more food than we could possibly consume. If any land is ‘locked away’ as endangered it is because people like you have already destroyed the rest of it!

I thought any major changes to a LEP would have to go back to public consultation? It’s a bit of a concern if they can put it through the various hoops, submit it, and then make changes at that point.
