With the weather hotting up Simon Corbell is asking for you all to make sure you’re ready for the red ruin of fire.

“The presence of grass fuel across the landscape as a result of prolonged wet weather in the Territory means there is a significant risk to the Canberra community in the months ahead,” Mr Corbell said.

“The seasonal outlook indicates that there will be average rainfall over the summer period, however daytime and night time temperatures will be higher than normal,” he said.

“This means it as important as ever that all Canberra properties are adequately prepared for the bushfire season.

“Residents need to start preparing now by ensuring that they know what they will do and where they will go in the event of a fire. People should avoid leaving important decisions to the last minute.”

ACT residents can prepare for grass and bushfire by downloading and completing a Bush Fire Survival Plan and ensuring that their families, homes and properties are ready to act when a fire starts in their neighbourhood.

The annual ACTRFS high profile bushfire season community awareness campaign will feature radio, television, press and online advertising featuring the key message “In the grass, fires move fast so PREPARE.ACT.SURVIVE.
