In a very un-Australian act, arsonists have struck again in the early hours of Saturday morning (January 26), this time in Holt and Fadden.
ACT Policing is investigating two incidents of arson, the first, a grass fire in the bush land off Foxton Circuit Fadden, behind the Holy Family Primary School.
Police were called to the scene about 12.50am where ACT Fire and Rescue had distinguished a fire that caused 40 x 50 metres of damage.
Further assessment of the scene indicated the fire started from a wheelie bin which was located, melted in the middle of the burnt out area. Also located was a burnt out aerosol can and oil tin.
Fortunately the fire was not a threat to any property, with the closest premises being about 100 metres away.
Police were also called to the car park of the Raiders Sports Club in Hardwick Crescent, Holt at about 1.25am, where a silver Holden Statesman was well alight.
A short time later ACT Fire and Rescue arrive and extinguished the blaze which they determined was started on the front seats and was deliberately lit.
The owner had left the car at the club after having dinner there with her partner.
Anyone who may have been in the vicinity of these fires and witnessed suspicious activity is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or via crimestoppers.com.au. Information can be provided anonymously.
