Asbestos removal companies?

The last post I could find about this was from back in 2009, so hoping someone may have some more recent recommendations.

I’m planning to renovate our bathroom and ensuite, and we’ve had confirmed that the wall material is bonded asbestos sheeting. I want to basically gut the bathrooms, replace the wall material, and start from scratch.

So far I’ve had one company I approached for a quote not get back to me, another whose phones never seem to be answered, and googling throws up a lot of businesses who seem to be focused on commercial jobs, not a relatively small one like this. I’d appreciate any suggestions – thanks!

We have the same issue in Queensland. There are times of the year that companies are busier and this does result in it being hard to pin down a reliable company for smaller residential removal projects. You are right too, many of them are looking for the larger industrial jobs. If any readers are from Brisbane then iAsbestos Removal Brisbane http://www.iasbestosremovalbrisbane.com.au/ has a large team of fully licensed residential contractors that would be happy to quote on all jobs, small or large, asbestos testing is also available.

I have a -1, for Ozbestos Pty Ltd.
a) I emailed them with a request for quote, including a previously completed Asbestos Survey. Due to a admin fault on their side, they did not received my request for a quote (it went into their spam folder). This wasn’t a problem, I rang them to follow up, at which time they found the email and quoted to me.
b) I accepted their quote via email, which they promptly lost again.
c) When I rang them, to follow up again they said they would work out when they would be able to schedule the job.
d) The same day without any correspondence they sent around a person to do the work. My wife arrived at our house to find a tradesman removing cladding from the completely wrong section of the house. There was a discussion around what the guy was doing, followed by why he was doing it to that part of the house
e) Whilst the tradesman was there, Osbestos rang me to inform me that there was requirement for an Asbestos Assessor, which needs to be completed before they left, which they had not quoted.
f) Subsequently I rang ACTPLA, who confirmed that there was no requirement for a post removal inspection.

The result is that I do not recommend Ozbestos.

Oh mate! What an awful experience!! I wish I saw this before I booked them.
They were very slow for me, and twice called me about my payments being overdue despite me never receiving an invoice. Customer service was terrible – I dealt with 4 different people all who were quite rude and in the end they left some asbestos in the floor ???
I’m reiterating for people not to use them!!

Hi mate. We had to get 50m2+ of asbestos cement tile underlay removed earlier this year. A tradie mate recommended AABS Building Services.

The guy who runs it is called Ashley. Not cheap but they did a good job. 0431 311 097.

Good luck.
