Looks like the suggestion that this waste was heading for Murrumbateman or Tarago was wide of the mark, with the ABC now reporting that it’s heading for landfill in West Belconnen.

In an amazing act of spin by TAMS, burying asbestos in the ACT is now “helping the environment” because trucks aren’t driving as far.

We see a lot of spin on words to do with the environment these days. “Helping” and “Friendly” are abused all the time.
Sadly it still makes some people feel all warm and fuzzy.

= affordable housing

There goes the price of houses in West MacGregor…

Helping? Or just less impact on?

(Punching someone in the face slower, or punching them in the gut instead isn’t the same as helping)

Surely it would only be an issue if the landfill is dug up and the asbestos is cast into the breeze?

Where does the rest of the asbestos removed from house holds in Canberra get disposed of anyway? From my limited knowledge it’s sealed up in some kind of container and then goes to…..land fill.

I can think of worse places. no one will notice as long as they keep it away from the inner north I am happy for them to do whatever.

This could be a big issue in a few years as the suburbs are rapidly encroaching towards that area. There will probably be housing built there or within 100 metres in the next 20 years.
