Ask RiotACTHi all.

I had the unfortunate experience of buying the $8 a kilo ham from one of the major supermarkets last year. What a disappointment it was.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a quality ham supplier in Canberra (I don’t mind paying a bit extra for the real deal)?

We always get our ham from Cameron at Meatway’s in Kambah. He smokes his own and is an ex chef so all his stuff is really good. (

Good call. We miss the meat at Kambah and Wanniassa butchers since moving to Deakin a few years ago.

The better the area the worse the butchers that service the area. There’s a new socio economic/ Butcher theory for you.

I hear a thesis calling……..

I am a fan of Poachers Pantry small hams. They do a 450 gm traditionally smoked and cured ham which you can buy at the Pantry, or in a number of IGA supermarkets. However, I am pleased to see some other recommendations as we like a big ham at Christmas!

I’m continually impressed by the meat quality at Jordo’s chop shop at the little Wanniassa shops opposite Coles.

Great to have a small friendly Butcher with such dedication to his craft and still managing to survive with the discounting power and business might of Coles just 5 meters away.

Agree on the Mawson Butcher as well.

Bungendore Country Butchers. Ours is already on order.

The Pialligo Estate Smokehouse does amazing Christmas hams. Southlands Quality Meats in Mawson is also very good.
