Ask RiotACT

Hi Rioters,

I have recently bought a new house in Woden. I have a double remote controlled garage door. The previous owners gave me x4 remote controls (see below). Only 1 seems to work.

I have replaced the batteries but this didn’t do anything. Unfortunately I wasn’t left with any instructions.

Does anyone have any recommendations on who I should speak to about getting the remotes reset / fixed? Is it safe to assume that if they cannot be fixed that I can get replacements?

Thanks in advance.

I’ve used these guys before http://www.canberragaragedoors.com.au/
They were pretty reasonable. You can get the remotes you have on ebay though. You may find though the remote need to just be paired with the door again, so even if you just call any garage door mob, they’ll know what remote you have and how it works and probably give you a quote over the phone.

They look like universal remotes already. This is how I programmed mine, hopefully it works for you:

The garage door motor or controller should have a ‘Learn’ button on it somewhere (might be underneath a removable panel). Press the ‘Learn’ button on the motor, then the button you want to program on the remote. Press the remote button again (twice total). Now it should work. Rinse and repeat for each remote control.

Looks like an ATA PTX-4 or ATA PTX-5. Have a look at the remote and see if it says which type it is. Before you buy online, just google “program ata ptx-4 or 5 remote” and see if you can set your non working ones up yourself, it’s really very simple.

You can buy universal replacement remotes on ebay – they’re cheap as chips and I found they work perfectly. Saves hundreds compared to getting someone to come out and set you up with brand name remotes.

You’ll need to do a bit of hunting around to make sure you get the right type – but this is what I bought: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/2x-Universal-Replacement-Garage-Door-Gate-Car-Cloning-Remote-Control-Key-Fob-433-/281683960365?hash=item4195ac222d
