Ask RiotACTHello Rioters.

We have a 10-year-old kitchen that’s in great shape but the laminate on the cupboards is old and outdated.

We are looking for a company that can replace all the ugly yellow laminate but everyone we’ve called says they will only do complete kitchen rebuilds.

Our kitchen was custom built to fit the space, so the pre-made, standard size doors at Bunnings etc don’t come in the sizes we need.

Does anyone know someone that replaces laminated kitchen surfaces in Canberra?

Thanks.

The kitchen company in Fyshwick do “kitchen facelifts” which is what we got done. They are excellent.

If you are handy you can do it yourself.

Cabinets on demand who are part of Aneka Kitchens in Mitchell sell custom sized flat packs including just doors and filler panels. Google them.

You can choose from their standard range or for extra cost any laminate board from any manufacture.

I’ve used them for a full kitchen, replaced my aunts doors, pantry in new house and two wardrobes.

The biggest thing to bear in mind with them is they will make exactly what you ask for so your measurements need to be spot on.

And with doors they will drill the hinge mounting holes and cups, you need to nominate the centre line of the cup and the hinge type. You need to be accurate to within a few mm.

Price wise not too bad.

Polytec (one of the big Aussie laminate makers) at Mitchell also once allowed the public to buy doors and panels direct from them, they don’t do that anymore unfortunately. But pop in and they will give you an order form book and suggest some companies who will submit the order on your behalf for a small fee. With polytec you need to drill your own hinge holes and cups. I did it this way to make some built in bookshelves.

Bunnings now do made to size doors and panels. The door height can’t be changed for pantries it is 2055 high and for cabinets it is 720 and 550 high. The widths available for pantries ar from 297mm to 497 and for other cabinets 297 to 597 wide. These are only available in 10 new colours in premium melamine. You need to chat with their kitchen expert in store or a in home consultant. If you really get stuck they also can do made to size panels but you would need to drill your own hinge points.
