Ask RiotACT: Looking for banksia

Hi, I am a teacher in the ACT and am putting together a small display on May Gibbs. I am looking for a couple of banksia flowers to make banksia men. Does anyone know where I might be able to find some locally?

you could maybe try the Australian National Botanic Gardens? They might be able to provide you some information

If you don’t have any luck elsewhere, feel free to drop me a line on monarchrepublic@gmail.com. We have a large banksia in the backyard. No fresh flowers currently, but have some that are starting to dry, and some older ones.

I’d give the Australian National Botanic Gardens a call – 6250 9588 (mention you are a school teacher). They may have some cuttings they could give you – or may be able to suggest other places to visit or call.
