Ask RiotACT

My family and I are moving to Canberra in the next few months from Sydney and would like to get some advice about Woden and Weston Creek suburbs and in particular, what the local primary schools are like and what the community is like. I am an ex Canberran so I know which areas we would like to move to, however I left Canberra 15 years ago so I realise areas may have changed and I know nothing about the schools. We are looking to rent for 6 months in an area we want to buy in and don’t want to disrupt our children’s schooling when we transition from renting to buying. Any information on Torrens, Arawang, Chapman, Duffy, Curtin and Farrer primary schools would be appreciated.

Curtin is a great place coz its very central. I would definitely go with Curtin. Good schools too!

There are no bad options in your list of possible suburbs. If it were me, I would go Curtin first (good public and private school options and close to city too) followed by Chapman (same for schools, slightly further to city but nbd). Then any of the others.

Hi Sydberra. Based on the suburbs you have mentioned I think you have some great options. My children go to Holy Trinity (catholic primary) in Curtin. We are very happy with the school and the community. They are a International Baccalaureate school which really appealed to us. We have friends who have children at St Judes (also a catholic primary) in Holder, and they are also very happy. I have a niece who goes to Chapman primary. I haven’t heard a bad word about that school.

Curtin is the most central of the suburbs you’ve nominated, which could be a plus … other than that, can’t help!
