Ask RiotACT

Hi, Rioters,

I’m planning to transfer into the International Baccalaureate program in yr 11 as I plan on going to University in NY for Art and Animation, and I’m stuck!

Does anyone have any tips for choosing between Narrabundah College and Canberra College?

Thanks.

Hello Lana. I strongly urge you not to go to Canberra College. I spent two wasted years there. My graduation certificate notes euphemistically that I ranked in the ‘Top 80 per cent’ of graduates. If only I’d gone to Narrabundah College. Of course, it was Phillip College then, we had ASAT tests, and I spent more time in the Phillip Amusement Centre acing ‘Dragon’s Lair’ than I did in the classroom. Good luck with your endeavours – you sound a lot more committed than I was at your age.

Just FYI if your planning on going to university in the US whether you do an IB or ATAR makes next to no difference as you’ll most likely have to sit an SAT or ACT regardless, not to mention that the IB can be far harder to do well in as you’re marked against a standard as aposed to everyone else. But if your dead set on it Canberra College actually stopped offering the IB last year due to low enrollments, although it has better facilities and is asbestos free unlike Narrabunda. Anyway unless you have a car, location is by far the biggest factor. Hope this helped.
