Ask RiotACT: recommendations for an Orthodontist for my 8 yo son

Ask RiotACT

Hi Rioters.

I am looking for some help in finding a good Orthodontist for my 8yo son who needs to get braces.

As we have never had to see an Orthodontist before does anyone know ballpark costs?

Thanks.

I would highly recommend Dr. Garth Brice at Orthodontics Canberra (Woden). He made my teeth absolutely perfect. From memory the cost was probably around $7000-$8000, I am not overly sure though because I needed periodontic work done in addition to braces.

Dr Brice is retiring and not taking on any new patients (as is Dr Mountain who is also recommended a lot). Dr Brice has another orthodontist in his practice – Dr Gagliardi who is getting quite difficult to get into now as well. Apparently he is good too.

I had braces as an adult and I saw Dr Temo at Supersmile Orthodontics in Civic (they also have a Belconnen location). The costs vary on what type of braces you get (regular metal ones, clear ones, incognito ones – these sit on the inside part of your teeth so they’re not visible, or the invisalign ones – these are like the clear mouthguard ones). I had regular braces but with clear modules and it cost me about $8500 I think. Dr Temo was great. Really nice guy, super gentle and he explained everything well 🙂 Good luck.
