Ask Riot

Is anyone else having problems since WIN and TEN did their swap? I am only picking up ABC (phew) SBS (also phew) and the new NINE which is channel 5 and its subsidiaries.

There were two swaps. The south of Canberra (Tuggeranong and others) swapped last year/ year before.
North side one was recent I take it?

I’m not sure what swaps you are talking about? Maybe the change to digital. WIN has has only just recently ended its association with 9 so this swap has only just happened throughout Canberra

I had no trouble with the TVs and PVRs in our house connected to the outside antenna. They were picking up the new stations but still had the old labels on them (SC Ten). When I rescanned the new labels appeared (Nine Canberra). I had problems with the portable TV in the kitchen connected to an indoor aerial. The picture kept breaking up and tweeting in the morning, but when I turned it on in the afternoon it was working properly. I’ve noticed the picture on Channel Nine is now a bit fuzzy and not as good as it was on WIN, probably because Southern Cross (Nine) is the old CTC-7 which broadcasts on VHF whereas WIN is on UHF which gives a better picture.

the new TV sucks . WTF are they doing and why are they allowed to do it . Digital TV has been nothing but trouble since it’s inception.
HD isn’t even HD and the SD is picture is pure shite. Digital was supposed to be better not spend $ on new TV’s that have to display crap images .

If channel 9 was ripping cash from WIN TV how is Southern Cross going make any money ? If they go broke we will be screwed .

So far it seems we paying the boring ABC and SBS $billions a year to destroy private TV stations ?

Why does the government do that ?

We pretty much only watch ABC and SBS (a scattering of 9 shows but really mainly SBS). We basically pay for ABC and SBS to have a television industry in Australia. They do the bulk of training and risk taking for the TV industry on All sides of TV production.

I confess I haven’t been curious enough to notice or even check.

Actually, the best part of this recent swap last week is that by now using MPEG-4 encoding, HD is again HD (1920×1080 pixels) for 9HD and WIN HD (which used to be TEN). Not the bit-starved joke it had become. Hope the ABC and SBS quickly follow suite.

My new free-to-air-only TV won’t tune to Prime at all – and I only tuned it last week …

Can someone please explain the big swap to me?

In a nutshell, everything that was on Win is now on SC Ten and vice versa….

Nope, no reception issues for Bonython, tuned to Black Mountain.

I’m disappointed that the life channel is offline for 6 weeks.
though they are also showing repeats now.. 🙁 (like the SBS food channel)

I agree that reception has become worse since the swap. Until now, I was successfully still using the antenna from my old analogue TV, but it suddenly stopped picking up all but a few channels right around the time of the swap. The problem did extend well beyond the swapped channels, however, so could have had another cause.

I finally hooked up a digital antenna on the weekend and appear to have all the channels back. Not sure if I will need to retune as I haven’t tried to watch any of the swapped channels yet.

May need to re tune the TV, do an auto scan and you should be right.

No, it’s been working fine for me. I’m in the Bronx (ie: Richardson)
