Neighbour assault sparked by Cronulla riots, court told

A mother and her two sons are on trial for allegedly assaulting their neighbours in the Canberra suburb of Dunlop over two years ago.

The ACT Supreme Court has heard, the violent argument was sparked by the Cronulla riots that took place three days earlier.

The Kurdish mother and her two sons moved to Australia from Iraq in 2001.

The family cannot be named because the sons were under the age of 18 at the time of the alleged fight.

The court heard, one of the boys approached a group of Anglo-Saxon neighbours who were talking on the Dunlop street just before 8:00pm on December 14, 2005.

A female victim told the court, the boy spat at her while the mother punched her twice.

The defence counsel for two of the three accused said, the fight was encouraged and motivated by the Cronulla Riots that had recently taken place.

The trial continues.

Bet I could name them. Bet it’s the woman facing 35 charges of threatening Police (Feb 2008). She’s a charming piece of work, she is.

If you’re gonna rip news off the ABC website verbatim, you could at least credit it as such.

No, the font’s different!

Sorry about the typos and double posting.

Charnlop is such agreat suburb. If these poor, hard done by, marginilized members of society wer brought here as refugees send them home – NOW.

My question is why did he approach the group of kiddies? Were they mouthing off or was he asking for them to hitch their pants back up, put their hats on as per prescribed use and to stop acting like a bunch of compton/NWA/bel bev divoe wannabes?

Being a Kurd I am sure that a bunch of Canberra kiddies wouldn’t pose much of threat compared to Saddams hench men anyWHEY.

Dunlop-riots

Is “TV made me do it” a legitimate defence in the ACT?

Nice family. Always good to have an excuse like the Cronulla Riots to assualt people for (possibly) no real reason.
