At 7pm two will enter, one will leave. Thunderdome comes to Canberra

Julia Gillard has called a leadership vote for 7pm tonight (ever better at tactics than strategy).

She’s also demanding the loser retire to the study to avail themselves of a loaded revolver (metaphorically speaking).

State of Origin is about to be overshadowed by a more brutal struggle here in Canberra.

K Rudd and his team are going to do whatever it takes to win. Screw Principals. Disgusting.

In contrast, the people of Australia have got the person (the polls say) they want. The “tens of thousands of people” who wanted Kevin to come back are the ones responsible for stroking Rudd’s ego.

It just may have come at the cost of a better and more effective politician, albeit one who is much less popular.

The people get the politicians they deserve: never has this been more true.

I dislike Rudd but I dislike Destroy the Joint, Women For Gillard, victim politics and all the other ideological garbage Gillard brought even more.

Who cares, State of Origin is on…..

It was almost like Queensland were the Libs and NSW Labor. The results of the election will be much the same as the results of last night’s game.

DId you hear this one??! Abbott: ‘I’m not interested in playing parliamentary games . . . ‘! Snort. I seem to recall ‘core and non-core promises’ were an interesting cheaty tactic.

To vote Labour now would be to reward three years of ceaseless destabilisation. I was going to vote ALP in Eden-Monaro, but now I’d vote for Pauline Hanson before Rudd.

Remember what it was like last time? Do you reckon egocentric maniacs change their spots?

I remember reading about that in the print media, and hearing and seeing about it on radio and TV. Doesn’t mean it was true. I at least think it was exaggerated. And anyway, who cares if the PM is an asshole, so long as they are effective? I remember quite a lot of good stuff Rudd did too.

I do hope he ends the Pacific Solution offshore concentration camps.

Well, farewell Julia. Pity Kevin did not do ‘the right thing’ when he lost the leadership the first time around. I was dismayed that her exit will be treated by some as a loss for women, when really it is a loss for dull ideologues, ideologues who spouted vacuous university lefty banalities at every occasion. Julia was not an inspiring leader and her final days of justifying her position by invoking feminist incantations was likely the final straw. Pity. Hope we get some better leaders next time around.

That is a lovely little introductory article, ED. I admire your ability to condense things so elegantly.

I heard the news in Tilley’s, which did not erupt into spontaneous applause. The TV was switched on. And then the boys came on to play league.

It’s all bulk totes Abbott…

Speaking as a non-ALP supporter horrified at the idea of Abbott becoming PM…..BBOOORRRRIIINNGGGGG!

There is no national debate about policy; about a need to regulate the media, to protect society from gambling, to stop people drowning at sea trying to reach Australia, about WTF we are doing to protect fellow-Aussie Assange, about giving Indonesia foreign aid when that country has an enormous miltiary budget and is engaged on a campaign of genocide against West Papuans, but most importantly, about super-profits being made mostly foreign individuals off the explouitation of Australian minerals.

No. All we get is crap about the ALP’s leadership.

Nailed it!

Gillard’s gone.

Shorten is weasel.

Thumper, I find that comment totally inappropriate and highly offensive.

Weasels have much higher moral standards than that prick Shorten will ever have.

The people of Australia have run a very poor last in this challenge of ego’s.

Its sad that the main election issue at the moment is about personalities, not policies.

It’s interesting to hear that the loser will apparently leave politics. Whether or not it’s actually true remains to be seen.

I’m amused by the poll Today Tonight just had up… Less than 5% of the public that voted backed Gillard for PM.

I’m going to call it now.

Goodbye, Gillard. I think she knew she didn’t have the numbers when she called the spill earlier this afternoon.

That’s what you get for DividingTheJoint.

Gillard made some terrible mistakes the last few months on the advice of angry fringe groups – big mistake.

Yes but it took guts to change sides (no pun intended)!

Shorten Is Knifing The Pm

I would like to see a Highlander style finale.
