Last weekend I reviewed The Fudge People at the Old Bus Depot Markets in Kingston. I have to say, the response was overwhelming. I was also very surprised to see how many people LOVE fudge.
There was a lot of talk around my article, in fact, that night when I was at a friend’s wedding, one of their guests raised it at the dinner table. Before I knew it, the whole table was talking about fudge. In what I think was an attempt to change my mind about fudge, one guest shared his recipe for Redskin fudge that you actually make in your slow cooker. As you can imagine, the table was in awe. So I thought for this week’s At Home with Sophia, I would share the fascinating Redskin fudge recipe with all you fudge lovers.
Ingredients:
10 Redskins
200ml condensed milk (or half a can)
200g white chocolate
Method:
Unwrap the Redskins and place in a medium sized saucepan, along with the condensed milk and white chocolate. Melt down the ingredients on medium heat, stirring consistently, until the mix is smooth.
Carefully pour the mix into a small bowl lined with baking paper. Place in the fridge to set. This should only take an hour or so.
Take the set fudge from the fridge and remove from the bowl. Peel back the baking paper and place the fudge on a chopping board. Slice into pieces.
And there you have it! Redskin fudge – super easy to make.
You will notice that I didn’t use a slow cooker. There are a number of recipes on Google that show you how to make it in a slow cooker, but to be honest, I just didn’t want to wait. Cooking the fudge on the stove took me about 10 minutes, instead of waiting an hour for the slow cooker. The choice is yours though!
Even though fudge isn’t my favourite food, I still tried and I was pretty impressed that it tasted just like Redskins. I was also quite chuffed at how well it turned out. I took the batch to work and shared it with my colleagues, who all absolutely loved it and have asked me for the recipe. So here it is: Enjoy!
