ACT Policing is investigating a burglary at a Southside business overnight (Monday, May 13) which involved electronic keys and a silver Hyundai I30 station wagon (ACT registration YJA 52G) being stolen.

The electronic keys allow access to cash from Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) and police are aware that a sum of money has already been accessed through four separate ATMs throughout Canberra, and one in Riverside Plaza in Queanbeyan.

Police have asked the public to be vigilant around ATM’s and report any suspicious behaviour.

Police are also asking any members of the public who may have seen the stolen silver Hyundai I30 station wagon not to approach it but to contact Police urgently on 131444.

Police also advise that the car may have been abandoned or the number plates changed.

Anyone who may be able to assist police with the investigation is asked to contact police on 131444. Alternatively information can be reported confidentially to Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via the Crime Stoppers website on www.act.crimestoppers.com.au.

UPDATE 14 May 2013 17:40: The car has been found:

ACT Policing has located the Hyundai I30 station wagon related to this incident parked outside a house in Holder. Police would like to thank the community and media for their assistance in this matter.

Who leaves that sort of valuable item lying in their car in a deserted parking lot anyway?

Video is from the Waniassa parking lot where the offenders got cash from an ATM. The ATM keys and the car were stolen from elsewhere. No doubt the offenders knew exactly what the business did and how the keys were used.

Its probably not swan trying to save the budget. He’d be a few billion short

Finally, crims with ambition. Makes a change from f***wits robbing someones nanna for five bucks…

how do you get cash out of an ATM with a key?

Also in the video – how does the dude get into the car – lights flash to disarm alarm – but how?

He has the key to the car…

Would have thought the ATM video would have been more useful rather than a long zoom from the other end of the building.

The car has been found.

Who leaves that sort of valuable item lying in their car in a deserted parking lot anyway?

They electronics key obviously belongs to a company that maintains ATM’s. Though I would have thought to get access to the money you would need more than just a key and thought ATM’s had separate alarms that needed disarming.

As for the car, you know car thieves these days can and do break into houses and steal car keys. It is then clearly quite simple to arm and disarm the car!

Sounds like by someone with knowledge of what they were after…?
