News.com.au is running the following story about an alleged attempted abduction in Monash earlier today;

A 14-YEAR-OLD girl has managed to fend off two men who tried to pull her into their car, Canberra police say.

The teenager was walking along Burnie Street, Monash, in Canberra’s south, on Saturday night when a black ute pulled up near her.

Two men, both believed to be aged in their late teens to early 20s, got out and tried to force her towards the vehicle.

Do we have something like AMBER ALERT! America do, and has saved children’s lives from these sicko’s.

Maybe all those that straight away hit the kids with the “you’re a liar” tag, might need to go away and have a nice look at themselves.

Its a crime that needs to be investigated, hoax or not, grow up.

It would be a good rule of thumb to just ignore all kids reporting alleged “abduction attempts” such as this. Oyster is right – they are all rubbish and you’d have to be bonkers to be sucked in by this crap and the so-called “journalists” who breathlessly report this type of titillation.

*brilliant* I have noticed that fire alarms often go off when there is no fire so let’s ignore them, there have been occassions where women have falsified reports of domestic violence so we should ignore that as well – they are obviously after attention.

There was nothing on the TV or radio news about it. I’d say it was a hoax, all right. It would be a good rule of thumb to just ignore all kids reporting alleged “abduction attempts” such as this. Another case where a kid makes up a story, the media sell it and the public buy it.

These invariably turn out to be the product of a child’s fantasy/fear.

But still, you can’t not investigate the claim in case it is true.

Heaven forbid someone was actually trying to kidnap her!

It does happen, you know, and I bet for at least a few of those times, there were some idiots around squawking about it being a hoax.

It’s not a hoax until it’s been proven a hoax, sorry, but with crimes as serious as these, it has to be that way.

They’ve been hanging around this forum for too long, they’ve become overly cynical

Sorry, somewhat stunned by all this – you pull out a couple of instances where people have faked it therefore all children are? Do you have the samee opinion of reported rape – that women are just after attention?

You have to love the headline;

“Girl, 14, fights of would-be abductors”

What do they teach them in journalism school these days?

as a resident of Beirne st and a mum.
I would really like to know if this story is true. not much about it on the news or net. snyone heard?

At least the victim now knows not to trust anyone in Monash as they are creepy people. Anyone south of Erindale Drive, north of Isabella Drive, west of Ashley Drive & east of Drakeford Drive act quite differently to everyone else & what some of “those” people think is an everyday request, everyone thinks is wrong.

Usually, but not ‘invariably’. It doesn’t happen often, but often enough to be taken seriously.

C’mon Seriously, how many ute driving roving pedophiles are there in Canberra?
How many abductions have there been in the last year/s?
Agree with Oyster that most of these are usually fake:

http://macarthur-chronicle-camden.whereilive.com.au/news/story/camden-police-news-girl-12-faked-her-abduction/

But hey if it really happened, then cut these guys nuts off and give them a scrote sandwich.

This sounds like a hoax to me. Almost every time a kid reports a so-called abduction attempt interstate the media (in particular The Daily Telegraph) goes ballistic, rails against “perverts” and then – when the kid has successfully attracted the attention he sought – he comes clean and admitted he made the whole thing up. It happens time and time again, you must never believe them, ever. I wouldn’t trust these little bastards as far as I could spit.

wow. I hope you are not, and never will be, a parent.

I think I’d be inclined to give them the benefit of the doubt till proven otherwise.

Do you happen to own a black Ute???

Tend to agree with Noisy. 14 year olds are notorious for attention-seeking, but there’s always the chance it’s true too. More to this story than meets the eye I suspect.
