This in from Justice and Community Safety:
The Justice and Community Safety Directorate can confirm that an incident occurred at the Alexander Maconochie Centre after lockdown on the evening of 11 August 2012 which resulted in two detainees causing damage to their cell window, enabling them to exit their cell block.
The detainees then broke through internal fences to separate precincts within the gaol.
The damage was discovered by a Corrections Officer as part of a routine patrol and a short time later the detainees were located and returned to secure cells.
No attempt was made to breach the external perimeter.
As the incident is currently being investigated by ACT Policing it would be inappropriate to provide further comment at this time.
