Around 16:30 this afternoon a mild looking bingle had all the appliances out on Marcus Clarke Street.

We now cross to the peanut gallery for their interpretation.

I blame the road works signs for this.

If you travel north down marcus clarke street towards the alinga lights, on the left side of the road you can see one of those yellow road works sign with lane arrows on it.

the arrows show:

‘left lane: straight only, right lane: straight AND right”

however when you get to the intersection, if you look at the arrows that are painted on the road surface itself, they covered up the ‘straight’ part of the arrow so its now only a right arrow painted on the road.

so obviously the yellow road works sign contradicts this.

but that said driving down Marcus Clarke with the roadworks and barriers and orange poles everywhere is quite confusing at the moment. Especially with the fact that you can’t go straight from the right lane, instead you have to be in the left lane then veer into the right lane just past the lights.

If only there was some sort of method of slowing down traffic so people have more time to absorb the situation and react accordingly

Could’ve titled this as “Parking, Civic style”

Unlucky.

All the intersections along that stretch of Marcus Clarke St are bad. What you see all the time at that intersection, are cars trying to turn right, waiting in the middle of the intersection for a chance to turn once the turn arrow has gone out. Eventually, the lights change, but when the car tries to complete their turn, cars going straight through are still running the red. The Audi certainly looks at fault here, but there’s every chance the other car ran the lights as well.

The lights at University Avenue, Allsop St, and Alinga St all need dedicated turn arrows – including red arrows. The road’s just too busy these days for what’s currently set up. With the number of near misses I see at these intersections, I’m amazed that there isn’t an accident along there daily.

I am aware that its the fault of the driver trying to turn right into Alinga St, but that said driving down Marcus Clarke with the roadworks and barriers and orange poles everywhere is quite confusing at the moment. I presume this is going to be a permanent set up once the bus lane starts working, so some thought about making it clearer would be appreciated.

Yep, it’s a right bloody mess at the moment.

Also, it’s almost impossible to exit the Hobart Place car park and go straight through those lights on Marcus Clarke without pissing off Keijidosha by using the right hand lane to progress straight ahead.

When my baby, when my baby smiles at me I drive to Rio…

Now if we had a speed camera there it would not have happened.

Excuse me, very important public servant coming through!

2) The black Audi driver has attempted to turn right on to Alinga Street and failed to yield to the brown Kia. Given where the cars are sitting I’d say this is the more likely scenario.

This is, I think, what happened (based on me being very close to the accident, although not actually witnessing it until about 0.5 seconds after the bang)

This is the second accident at the same intersection in two days – the one on Tuesday caused more damage plus oil all over the road and was more clearly caused by someone trying to turn right (he got a bit further across the intersection before being collected).

Anyway, if you are turning right the on coming traffic will keep on coming. So give way!

Well Audi drivers are cocks, so that explains everything.

Two scenarios:

1) The black Audi driver has ignored that the lane they are in is now right-turn only (due to roadworks) and has attempted to drive straight through the intersection, realised that two cars can’t occupy one lane and ended up in oncoming traffic, collecting the brown Kia. (I’ve had a few idiots pull this stunt trying to queue jump peak hour traffic in the afternoon)

there is a white commodore in the picture……there is the answer to the cause of the accident
