Andy has sent this in:

For many years, the Canberra Archery Club puts on a Tournament over the Australia Day long weekend. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the club’s operation and is the first major competition held since the overhaul of the grounds

It came with this note:

With the high tech development of “Camera On A Stick” I was able to take things from a slightly different viewpoint of the Competition this year.

Soon I may be able to even see what I’m doing, but until then, not much escapes a fisheye on a pole.

However, even a regular lens will see some of the personalities that turn out in an activity that one might think may be full of introverts.

Did you get them at the BAMOAS festival?

“Camera on a stick”? They could have used a GoPro Hero 3 with a head strap.

Yes. Then they would have got inferior wide angle shots at head level, instead of looking down ON the archers with a lens that costs twice as much as a GoPro Hero 3.
Keep making those amateur suggestions from inside the box.

So what’s the point of the big rod sticking out toward the target under the grip in these you-beaut bows? A counter-balance, or anti-vibration measure?

it’s usually called a “stabiliser” (or spelt with a z if you’re american). Yes, mainly for balance and dampening the effect of bow release… remember that effective “grips” don’t actually “hold” the bow, just position it. Like most sports consistent follow-through is important to accuracy and the stabiliser helps with that as well.

I guess this is where I might end up if our political “elite” manages to ban firearms…

Awesome pics, thanks for sharing! Reminds me I should get back to it.

totally agree. Archery is a great sport if you have time… on my list for when the kids get old enough to draw a bow safely
