The National Capital Authority has the happy news that the Captain Cook Memorial Jet is going to get some spout at different times tomorrow for Australia Day.

It’s still the miserly two hours of operation, but instead of 2-4pm it’s going to go from 10am to midday.

The Captain Cook Memorial Jet was constructed to commemorate the bicentenary of Captain James Cook’s discovery of the East Coast of Australia.

In still conditions the jet can propel water over a hundred metres into the air.

“I would very much appreciate it if they would not use it as part of the fireworks display like they did a couple of years ago. We – and a few hundred others – got soaked when the wind blew the water in our direction and it was a very cold ride home indeed.”

With today’s weather, that sounds great!
