Jon Stanhope has put out a media release on all the fun things the ACT Government is putting on this Australia Day:

The Casual Projects, Hancock Basement, Barbarian, Super Best Friends, and Los Capitanes will take to the lake stage for the inaugural Australia Day Jam.

In between the acts, the Sydney-based Monster Skate Park crew and skaters Corbin Harris and Shane Azar will run professional skateboard and BMX bike demonstrations and workshops.

A full day of entertainment will be on show in Commonwealth Park starting with the Great Aussie Day Breakfast at 7:30am.

The Wonderful World of Mr. Men and Little Miss show will headline the Children’s Festival from 11:30am – 2:30pm at Stage 88.

This year the huge fireworks display over Lake Burley Griffin will be launched from five sites starting at 9pm – the National Carillion; Reconciliation Place; Commonwealth Avenue Bridge; barges on Lake Burley Griffin; and the roof of the National Library of Australia.

The best vantage points are Regatta Point and the National Library of Australia, where a soundtrack of Australian music will be synchronised with the spectacular display.

Which is not to forget the extravaganza taking place on Sunday night at Parliament House.

We did the Cotter Bush Picnic today, ’twas lovely.
Plenty of shady grassy spots for picnic blankets, feral drop-bears and Lake Burley Griffin Beach Surf Life Saving Club members and a walking weed as roving entertainers, the Vietname Veterans sausage sizzle also had vegie burgers and hot chips, and lots of free kids entertainment.

We had the four planes last night – i guess they were practising for today.

There are 4 small noisy aeroplanes roaring over my house! They keep going over, are they lost I wonder? There’s no one out here to watch them except roos.
