The Australian Dragon Boat Championships 2011 are already dominating the central basin of Lake Burley Griffin.

The opening ceremony is tonight at 5pm at Commonwealth Place and it continues until Sunday.

If you want to get on down to check out the action there’s a event plan online. And more information on the CDBA website.

I did dragon boating about ten years ago with a corporate team. The only problem was that my teammates were a bunch of slack-jawed, weak-armed idiots who couldn’t keep time.

Brilliant fun!!

If you’re looking to seriously loose some weight, ton up, meet new and positive people, Dragon Boating is the way to go.

Have been participating on and off for the last 4-5 years and these lads and lasses have to be some of the best mates I’ve ever had the pleasure of being around. It’s all mass amounts of positive encouragement from a range of different people, getting fit in a sport that’s just a little different and *a lot* fun.

If you’re ever free on a Saturday morning, or after work, pop on down and give it a go 🙂

I was fishing down near the Yacht Club a couple of months ago, and there were Dragon boat crews training nearby.

As far as I could tell, the training agenda consisted mostly of the crews being roundly abused in aggressive tones by the coxswain. Didn’t seem like a lot of fun at all to me.

Dragon boating is awesome.

If you like getting pieces of Queanbeyan s*** flicked in your face.

Dragon Boating is a highly addictive sport. I raced whit the Dragon Flyers for a few years before having to give it away to make time for my kids sport.

I encourage everyone to head down there on the weekend. Take a chair, a bottle of wine and some good food and just relax watching the teams slog it out. BTW: the sprints are great but the endurance races are the best!

Go Griffins!!!
