Australian Heritage Week events in the ACT

By Canfan - 10 April 2015 0

Senator for the ACT Zed Seselja is encouraging families, parents, teachers, and community groups in Canberra to get involved with Australian Heritage Week.

“Australian Heritage Week starts this Saturday and runs until 19 April 2015,” Senator Seselja said today.

“Australian Heritage Week is an important and lively celebration that encourages us to reflect on the stories and places that make our region unique.

“Going to an event is a great chance to come together as a community and learn about our heritage and experience our amazing natural places, our rich Indigenous heritage and the diverse historic sites that reflect our development as a nation.

“You might be surprised at what you learn about our local heritage over the coming week,” Senator Seselja said.

Last year Australian Heritage Week saw a variety of activities held across Australia, with events in every State and Territory.

Local events throughout the week include:

  • The 5th Ainslie Open Houses and Gardens
  • Oaks Estate 100 years ago walking tour
  • Lecture by Lenore Coltheart, Author of “Albert Hall: The Heart of Canberra”
  • A Walk in the Park (Commonwealth Park)
  • Mugga-Mugga National Trust Open Day
  • A Walk to the Yankee Hat Aboriginal Rock Art Site
  • Jane Austen Festival Australia

“With most events free or having a minimal entrance fee, Australian Heritage Week is open to anyone who wants to get involved and there are perfect activities for the kids to enjoy,” Senator Seselja concluded.

Australian Heritage Week is an initiative of the Australian Government supported by State and Territory heritage agencies and community heritage organisations across Australia For more information on what is happening go to http://heritage-week.govspace.gov.au.
