Lifeline Canberra plans to establish the nation’s first suicide safe-house in Canberra if they’re are able to raise $1 million by the end of the year.

The organisation is lobbying dozens of business and philanthropists to raise funds to establish the purpose-built safe-house.

Iconic rocker Angry Anderson will be ambassador for the campaign, knocking on the doors of around 100 companies to ask for a $10,000 cheque.

Lifeline CEO Mike Zissler says the safe-house would offer a non-clinical alternative for those in crisis.

How does one promote a suicide house without normalising suicide?

Is it for suicides or more for self harm attention seeking behaviours, i can’t really see it helping either.

What an excellent idea. I hadn’t heard of this before now. I hope it all goes well. A non-clinical alternative providing support for people with suicide and self-harm feelings is fantastic for people who require a lower to moderate level of care and have been traumatised by the clinical system in the past.
