Babyfaced Brumbies v Hardened Highlanders

The newlook Brumbies make their Canberra Stadium debut for the 2008 Super 14 season on Saturday night with even more new faces. Following injury to two-dads and the genie last week, we will see yet more colts running with the Brumbies this week. Of note is the unpronouncable Afusipa Taumoepeau, who makes his debut straight out of school boys rugby. It will also be a real family game with both the Smith brothers and Faingaa brothers getting gurnseys this week. More details of the line up on Brumbies Rugby.

Being the one-eyed fan that I am, I’m hoping (and expecting) to see the mighty Brumbies smash the Highlanders. Will the return of Chiz & new import Chapman bloster the side? or will I be drowning myself (and my sorrows) in a bucket of warm beer on Saturday night?

What happened to the game I used to love? First there was Al Baxter then pattycake before scrums. Now these new rules that encourage so much running.

Tell me it’s all a dream and when I wake up rugby will be a game with a place for fat, slow props again.

If they flop again, this time at home and against middleweight opposition, someone should have a word with Gandalf about spending more time with his family.

I was going to say they should get one of the ARC coaches as an adviser on the new rules. But they have one – albeit one who let his team waste the ARC season.

Maybe they’ve learnt the rules now and Huxley (et al) won’t go kicking it out on the full. Nice work coaching staff.

I second that comment. Although I’ll raise you one ‘the whole team didn’t know what it was doing’.

Granted the conditions were terrible, and the injury list doesn’t help, but still, it seemed like every time a Brumby got the ball they’d just stand there for a millisecond like they didn’t know exactly what they were supposed to do.

The forwards looked very outclassed last weekend, I suspect it’ll be a tough year for the Brumbies. Fingers crossed though.
