ACT Policing has arrested a 14-year-old girl after a vehicle pursuit last night (Sunday, 27 November).
Around 11.50pm, members from Belconnen Police Station were conducting mobile patrol on Baldwin Drive, Kaleen when they observed a white Mitsubishi Lancer travelling at excessive speed on Ginninderra Drive.
Police turned onto Ginninderra Drive and activated emergency lights and sirens in an attempt to pull the car over. The car accelerated away at a speed approaching 130km/hr in an 80km/hr zone and a pursuit commenced.
As the car approached intersection of Mouat Street, the driver went through a red light. The driver then failed to negotiate the corner, loosing control of the car, striking a concrete traffic island.
After being assessed by ACT Ambulance Service, the youth was apprehended and taken to City Watch House.
The youth will face the ACT Children’s Court today (Monday, 28 November) charged with traffic offences including illegal use of a motor vehicle, unlicensed driving, not stopping when signalled by police and reckless/dangerous driving.
