An 18-year-old Latham woman was arrested early this morning (Saturday, August 10) after she assaulted a police officer in Latham.

At about 11.55pm last night (Friday, August 9), police responded to reports of a disturbance at an eighteenth birthday party in Chubb Place, Latham.

Following two altercations police officers began to disperse the party at which time a woman aggressively confronted police, striking a female officer several times in the face.

The woman was conveyed to the ACT Watch House and charged with common assault. She will appear in ACT Magistrates Court on August 22.

Here is a snapshot of the assault police laws in NSW which we obviously don’t need here??

(1) A person who assaults, throws a missile at, stalks, harasses or intimidates a police officer while in the execution of the officer’s duty, although no actual bodily harm is occasioned to the officer, is liable to imprisonment for 5 years.

(1A) A person who, during a public disorder, assaults, throws a missile at, stalks, harasses or intimidates a police officer while in the execution of the officer’s duty, although no actual bodily harm is occasioned to the officer, is liable to imprisonment for 7 years.

(2) A person who assaults a police officer while in the execution of the officer’s duty, and by the assault occasions actual bodily harm, is liable to imprisonment for 7 years.

They’ve only charged with common assault, so injuries won’t have been bad. I’d guess minor bruising. The fact the charge of assault police / assault territory official wasn’t used is disappointing, but unfortunately its not an option here in the ACT… :/

Once again we have that absolute genius Corbell to thank!

I suspect that the thought process was more like:

I can just imagine the thought process: “There’s been a couple of punch-ups already, and there’s lots and lots of cops here. The only sensible thing to do at this time is go over and beat that copper over there in the face. It can only end well”.

I wonder if the perp feels shame and regret, or whether she feels totally justified in her actions. Something along the lines of “F*&king b*&ch copper hoo duz she fink she iz tryin 2 enforce the lore I woz wivvin me rites she woz arxing for it evryfink woz fully sweet bro till she tried to make us obey the law and hoo duz that at a party eh bro?”

I must be getting crankier as I get older (who’d’ve thought), or maybe it’s just the end of winter blues. Whatever the case, as with the platypus killers, claymores and automatic fire seem more and more like a viable solution to this sort of idiocy.

My daughter wants to become a police officer, and thinking of that makes my heart go out to the female police officer. I hope she didn’t suffer any serious injuries and recovers swiftly.

Well said. Agree coletely.
