PANIC! AT ERINDALE COLLEGE !

Students at Erindale College have been happily panicking whilst in rehearsals for their upcoming production. For twelve weeks 30 young performers have been involved in the development of a new play with local playwright Hadley. During this time the rehearsal room has been host to public servants, sailors, bikini girls, creepy dentists, infomercial hosts and, of course Hadley’s trademark stock character, the zombie. The resulting work is intriguingly titled, BAD JoY HAPPY PANiC!

BAD JoY HAPPY PANiC! is a quirky and surreal tale about unusual friendships and an unexpected quest. Sam Sevenandahalf, the public servant, is late for work, meanwhile, Charlotte ’s alter ego, Dr Monsoon makes a cunning escape from the insane asylum. Neither Sam nor Charlotte expected to find themselves on a quest for the moon let alone battling the monstrous power of King Beetle, the ringleader of a brace of Creepy Dentists.

This unique production combines Hadley’s offbeat style of storytelling with the musical talents of local band Pleased to Jive You, who appear as The Band in the Moon. BAD JoY HAPPY PANiC! is Spike Milligan meets Fear and Loathing in a Rock’n Roll apocolypse.

Last year Erindale College ’s major production, i of the storm, a devised retelling of Othello, received four CAT Awards. Driven by the desire of their students to engage with the creative process and delve into the unexpected, this year the Drama Department decided to commission an emerging playwright. Hadley is best known for writing short works, such as THRILLING HOSTAGE MELODRAMA AT HIGH SPEED WITH PINEAPPLE, which has been seen in Armidale, Sydney and the UK , and won Best Comedy Script at Melbourne Short & Sweet. BAD JoY HAPPY PANiC! promises to surprise and delight you… and perhaps change your view of the public service forever.

BAD JoY HAPPY PANiC! will premiere at Erindale Theatre 7pm, Tues 28th, Wed 29th, Fri 31st Oct and Sat 1st Nov, with Matinees on 11am and 2pm 30th Oct

I suppose that would have been appropriate.

I thought you were just being theatrical.

First paragraph second sentence should be “I had intended to GO along…”

I happened to be in a position where I could catch a quick glimpse of the script for this piece, and I must say I found it incredibly amusing for all the wrong reasons. I had intended to along simply out of morbid curiosity, unfortunately (or fortunately?) I am overseas that week.

I must reiterate that I caught a glimpse of the script – by no means did I read it in full, and there is of course a very real difference between reading a play and seeing it live (exactly why I wanted to see just how the hell it came together).

As a former Erindale student and a former performer in the Erindale productions – I hope it all goes well. Especially the bikini girls.

sold.

I can one hundred percent assure you that if you turn up to see bikini girls you will in no way be disapointed.

bikini girls ?
