John Hargreaves has announced you’ve got a week to get your entries in to the “Life’s Reflections” photographic competition.

“Life’s Reflections is a photographic competition that challenges perceptions of older people. It’s about recording the energy and contributions of Canberra’s seniors”, said Mr Hargreaves.

Finalists and selected images will be showcased during ACT Seniors Week, which is conducted from the 15th to the 22nd of March 2009.

“We are looking for images that show older people as being very much part of our community.

If that floats your boat there’s more information online.

Shockingly it appears there is a $10,000 prize for a young person’s self portrait!!

It seems I’m too young to model for this. How ageist!

: P

Now I’ll never be a senior model …. I suppose Greg in Ragless Circuit won’t want to go out with me now, huh?

I’m going to visit Hargreaves armed with a camera..

“promotion and publicity initiatives associated with positive aging in the ACT”

Is there such a beast as “negative aging”? Doesn’t that mean getting younger?

Inappropriate: That seems quite fair, actually. That one doesn’t even let them use it for anything other than promoting the photo comp itself or “positive ageing in the ACT”.

“promotion and publicity initiatives associated with positive aging in the ACT” is open to a lot of interpretation. It reads to me that the ACT Office for Aging could use it for anything they do, as it’s unlikely they wouldn’t do anything that isn’t “associated with positive aging in the ACT”.

I would like to see the negative ageing in the ACT.

This again reads like someone who forgot to proofread “…positive publicity initiatives associated with ageing in the ACT.”

maybe old canberran could submit his photos from times past – they are definitely Life’s reflections…

I dunno Dan, technical ability is what gives you the chance to capture the great photo, it’s not the great photo in and of itself.

If only photo competitions were judged on more than emotive nature, i.e. technical ability etc…

I gave up entering photo competitions a long time ago when i realised that technical ability is never a consideration.

Back on topic people.

Perhaps we could take the residents of Goodwin on a visit to meet Greg in Ragless Circuit.

So long as they fall with in his stated are range. Getting intimate with a 100 year old would be weird.

What are the prizes?!

And I love this condition:

Entrants agree to give irrevocable rights to The Australian Capital
Territory, a body politic established by section 7 of the Australian
Capital Territory (Self-Government) Act 1988 (Territory) represented
by Department of Disability, Housing and Community Services
to use and re-use, publish and re-publish the photograph I have
submitted (in whole or in part, individually or in conjunction with
printed matter, or in composite form, and in any medium, including
the internet) for the following purposes:
Promotion and publicity initiatives associated with the
Life’s Reflections Photographic Competition; and/or
Promotion and publicity initiatives associated with positive
ageing in the ACT.

Gotta love photo comps…

How about a competition to find the most patronising and offensive photo competition….
