Balance the ACT Budget by giving Civic back to the Federales?

Why don’t they just give the whole lot, holus bolus to the NCA ?

That way, we can get back to being a planned city, we might be able to build roads that can handle two cars going in opposite directions without risk of collision (Dunlop), and responsibility would fit squarely within the jurisdiction of one department.

Although it makes me sorry to say it, my elected representatives (and no, I didn’t vote for them but they managed to get in anyhow) in local government have managed to screw it up pretty much every time they’ve tried IMHO.

I’m still waiting for S7S to answer this question; “So are you telling me that as the planning minister, you have planning authority over width and depth, but not height”.

Obviously, the incentive for the NCA to drop the bundle will kick in if/once they resume control of everything and will need to be watched like a child holding a vaccum cleaner and a cat, but until they fuck it up I’m prepared to give them a run for their money.

One of the biggest problems with planning in the ACT is the continuing state of open warfare between ACTPLA and NCA. It has happened in all sorts of funny places, including the rural settlements after the bushfires.

I think the best solution is to hand over Civic and the Parliamentary Triangle, lock, stock ‘n’ barrel to NCA, and tell them to piss off from the urban and suburban bits of Canberra. that way, there is a clear demarcation, and all the kiddies can play in thier own sandpit rather than fighting over shared space.
