Hi All …

I’m new back to Canberra and don’t seem to have had much luck finding spots for bands to rehearse .

I was thinking there would be some facilities in Mitchell, Fyshwick or Hume, but most enquiries come up with blank stares.

Any ideas anyone ?

Oh, and suburban garage’s are out of the question!

Cheers

We used Redsun last night and was happy with the facilities though seeing it was after work we didn’t use anywhere close to the 4-hour session you pay for.

Gidday to all,

I own Redsun studios in Canberra and Blacksun is owned by my brother. I would like to let everyone know that we have six large rooms all fully refurbished, all with PA systems and mics. We have snack and drink machines, full facilities and blacksun even has a pool table. We will do bookings 24/7 at Redsun as well. I do not know who Jim Jones is and no idea why he would say to stay away from Redsun and Blacksun. Either way you look at it make your own minds up people, we have the very best rehearsal space to hire in Canberra…

Thanks for all the info guys
Booked in at Rob’s Garage 🙂

Fortunatley no Bagpipes are involved …..

story please…

also i think infidel studios might rent out for rehearsals too…

If you play bag pipes, apparently Batemans Bay has a venue.

If you play loud drums extremely poorly, apparently the garage across the road from my house is where half of Canberra plays.

Local Scout Hall? contact numbers usually on sign out front. There is a really nice one on the shore of Lake Ginninderra – near the Mall.

Rob’s garage (http://www.robsgarage.com/) in O’Connor.

Jam Factory in Fyshwick (formerly ‘The Warehouse’: 4/9 Lithgow Street)

There was a rehearsal space/studio in Mitchell, but damned if I can remember what it’s called.

If you talk to The Basement (Cohen St, Belconnen – 6251 4541) they also provide rehearsal space (although the hours are necessarily limited).

It can also pay off to talk to as many educational institutions as possible about this sort of thing (back in the day, there was a Kambah childcare centre that was used as rehearsal space at night) as they can provide a cheap alternative.

Whatever you do, stay well away from Red Sun/Black Sun.

I know some guys that regularly used the Tuggeranong youth centre, that might be worth a look.

there are various youth centres around the place that allow bands to practice, although I haven’t been in that situation for years, so some things might have changed.

I often hear bands giving it a go down at the Tuggeranong Youth Centre (near the Southern Cross Club entrance) and we used to use the Woden centre (across from the bus interchange) about 15 years ago – yes, it’s still there.

If you’re northside, I’m sure there’s at least one out that way you could enquire at.
