Bangladeshis coached by ex Comet coach

By Thumper 18 July 2005 7

Shaun Williams, ex Canberra Comets player and coach, is now the Bangladeshi A coach. For those who have no interest in cricket, an A side is supposed to be your second string team. However, in Bangladesh, they don’t have enough players to have a reasonable second XI, so they simply play their first XI minus a few players.

Either way, good to see an ex Canberran making his way in international cricket.

Ahhh… nothing quite like hit a sweet cover drive or square drive. Albeit, I tend to square drive with a cross bat down on one knee and slapping it through point like a front foot cut…

I’m just happy when bowlers trundle down a heaps of pies, ie, full bungers on leg stump, half volleys outside off, and short stuff anywhere…

sorry that was supposed to read NOT quite but i put the not in the html brackets and hence it picked it up as html…. a calamity of errors

it was quite the beautiful cover drive

I only learnt the art of forward defence last season I figured that it would be a good idea to get my eye in before I take a wild swing…. and you know what it actually worked as I hit my first 4 (enough applause)… it was quite the beautiful cover drive I have rehearsed so much in the nets… more of a cross bat square pull – which ended up me stumbling forward and almost completely stacking – not exactly elegant but best batting memory so far – which I will probably take to my g-rave

Without doubt!

I’m thinking of moving there and going from 4th grade to test cricket, as long as I don’t face anyone bowling faster than about 120kph as i can’t see the ball that well any more…

I too can bowl probing, non turning offies, or wild big spinning leggies of which maybe 3 in an over actually hit the pitch, and can play a forward defence as well as anyone…

mmmmm maybe I could try out Bangers A team – with my gentle off-to-no spiners my erratic middle order batting (read block or wild swing) and my outstanding slips fielding…. surely they would have a place for these obvious allround skills

I should have also added that Stuie Karpinnen, ex Canberra Comets, Western Australian and Canberra Norths player, is the Bangla fitness and fielding coach.

And they recently beat Australia in a one day international.
