The Stawell Times-News has word that Canberra’s own Zoo and Aquarium has taken delivery of two Barking Owl chicks from the Halls Gap Zoo.

Owls rock.

I meant that that’s where they got the name from. But you’re being far too silly…(-:

Unless you’re talking about the Haast Eagle, which used to eat moa in Aotearoa. If they existed in Australia, things would be interesting, even for emus.

Doing surveys in state forest a while back, there were brush-tailed possum tails everywhere. Powerful Owls apparently swallow them whole, and then just snip off the tail. I imagine a Powerful Owl could/ take on a smallish dog (or even an unattended child?), I don’t know whether they would or not. But they’re much bigger than a Barking Owl.

Do they really prey on small dogs?

Some times they can especially the bigger owls. Other birds like Eagles can take down Deer and Roos and Lambs. You dont see it though but its been caught on camera a few times.

Any chance of a few more pics (not from google)?
