Normally I’m with you Henry, but something odd happened with your application here. I’ve just done a renewal for a child, which is treated as a new application. The only time a marriage cert comes into it is if the mother has signed with a surname not as indicated on the childs birth certificate

That makes no sense because how then do children from de facto relationships get passports, not to mention the fact that a marriage certificate will not make any connection to children (most children tend to be born after the issue of a marriage certificate). Something’s got muddled.

Where (and when) did you go to get your child’s passport? A marriage certificate is definitely not required to get a passport for a child, you only need the following:

– Assemble all the original documents you need to support the application eg full Australian birth certificate, proof of citizenship*, citizenship certificate, court orders, and the child’s current or expired Australian passport if they have one
– Bring two identical colour photos less than six months old, and ensure one of these has been endorsed on the back by the child’s guarantor
– Bring proof of your own identity which has a photograph, signature and residential address

Somebody get Barr a dictionary so he can look up the word “crucial” and find out what it really means. Maybe they could also show him footage from when his Labor colleagues failed to pass SSM. Multiple times.
