The Canberra Times has a leak from the Legislative Assembly Labor caucus on Andrew Barr’s declarations of love for Jon Stanhope and Katy Gallagher.

The Sunday Canberra Times has obtained a confidential caucus document distributed on Friday afternoon in which Mr Barr says if the role of chief minister became available he would nominate only for the deputy leadership and support current deputy Katy Gallagher at the top of the ticket.

Julius Caesar, Act 1, Scene 2:

I saw Mark Antony offer him a crown;–yet ’twas not a crown
neither, ’twas one of these coronets;–and, as I told
you, he put it by once: but, for all that, to my
thinking, he would fain have had it. Then he
offered it to him again; then he put it by again:
but, to my thinking, he was very loath to lay his
fingers off it. And then he offered it the third
time; he put it the third time by: and still as he
refused it, the rabblement hooted and clapped their
chapped hands and threw up their sweaty night-caps
and uttered such a deal of stinking breath because
Caesar refused the crown that it had almost choked
Caesar; for he swounded and fell down at it: and
for mine own part, I durst not laugh, for fear of
opening my lips and receiving the bad air.

It would be a winner for the ACT Skid. And the 1st for the nation? Definitely a feather in the Labors cap.

While I don’t condone a political attack on sexual preference grounds, it could be something that happens in the bubbling factional stew of the Labor party machine…

Anyone know what kind of internal support there would be for a stably-partnered, member of the QGLBTg activist community as a Chief Minister or as Deputy, both at ACT Labor and National party levels (ie: would it be wildly popular with the ACT branch but incredibly unseemly for the national groups)?

I think Katy has had the make over. Just do a before/after from one year ago.

Just an observation, not saying its right! Female pollies go for a makeover and a feature in Woman’s Weekly (I guess Katy will have to do with the CT). Male pollies in need of an image change go all blokey and suddenly start turning up to footy matches and Bathurst eg remember Keating’s attempts to show he’s still a working class boy by suddenly following Collingwood. Of course, using the VIP jet to take him to the games took some of the shine off

Now, now Anna. You are going to get Granny all hot and bothered if you suggest that people look and admire women on how they look rather than on how they perform.

Who Katy has not performed? Heh heh. Nothing to lose then to try a new bob and lose a bit of weight then.

How long until Katy starts the style makeover to improve her media presence? It seemed to work for Gillard

Has he offered his full support yet?

Love the refs, by the way, JB

This thread would have to take the ‘mixed mataphor of the month’ award.

Barr – humbug indeed.

barr, humbug

Wity

sorry skid, i just read your post as including ‘dedicated hair‘ and wondered where you were going with the whole ‘assets’ theme… but she is a wry sly squirming thing and may survive a powershift, your sage observation notwithstanding…

Of course, a document of anything other than party-line support would be an unwise course of action for any aspirational politician, prior to making a move.
Katy’s biggest assets (Jon’s support and designated heir) make her first against the wall when change comes.

Out, out damned spot.

Any connection between Mr Barr’s willingness to share his many opinions with an ambition for ACT leadership is a lie, a deceit, a scandal and possibly untrue.

barr, humbug.
