Barry Drive Bus lane returns

The left hand lane will be a BUS LANE, so it won’t matter if it’s clogged up because all buses in that lane will have to turn right at Kingsley St anyway.

Possibly the traffic lights will be sequenced to give buses priority, so that there won’t be any / much waiting involved anyway.

Secondly turning left out of Clunies Ross Street if you look at the line markings it would see as if traffic can turn into the bus lane, and when you consider why there is a bus lane there is makes sense. However as noticed this afternoon traffic was just sitting there waiting to enter the middle lane. Again for little extra cost the turning traffic could have been given their own lane, which merges with the bus lane and have the merge with the other traffic further up. Or done what they did on the city bound side and have 3 lanes all the way. In fact 3 going up the hill would have been better anyway.

The issue that confounds me about this project is why Bouldrewood and Froggat Streets weren’t reconfigured as part of the works. There was a perfect opportunity to connect Froggat Street to Clunies Ross Street and close off the awkward and non-signaled intersection of Bouldrewood Street and Barry Drive.

The added benefit of this arrangement would be that a fence could be erected along the median strip of Barry Drive to prevent the daily herds of ANU students from playing human frogger. It will only be a matter of time before someone gets mowed down.

Hmm, still just the single lane from McCaughey Street onwards towards the city when I drove through there 30 mins ago.

Graffiti already adorns the new pedestrian bridge over Sullivans Creek too, haha.
