NotDingers has pointed out a rather interesting tender:

Description: Construction: Barton Bus Station

It’s certainly long needed down around National Circuit and Kings Avenue where the buses can really stack up at home time.

Dacquiri, ACTION already run what you suggest, Barton is the starting point for a whole heap of 700 series express buses that go to quite a lot of destinations in North Canberra. It is also a through destination for 700 series buses to the south too, though yes some 700’s from South do travel down Commonwealth Ave so miss Barton.

When I used to work in Barton though the one thing that irked me is where I live there are 5 703 buses in the morning and afternoon, however only 3 go to Barton the other two end short in Russell. Of course the ones that stop short are the ones I would want to catch, the other 3 were either too early or too late. Now yes I could have changed in Civic, but that really defeats the purpose of using express buses doesn’t it?

As for subsidising, there is nothing stopping the bus tickets being salary packaged. Of course though the bulk of workers in Barton are federal Government employee’s which would create an FBT nightmare for each department hence they won’t come to that. Though nothing stopping small private companies who are treated differently when it comes to FBT doing it.
