Trolls account is gaining creedence.

The father of these girls has now passed away. I am having dificulty finding words to express my thoughts.

Bottom line is the Feds are pulling in about 13.9 BILLION dollars PA in fuel tax, but are only able to return 2.7 billion to the roads. The States obviously receive some of these dollars in grants, but spend about 7.3 billion on roads. This amount probably includes a hefty contribution from rego fees levied.

The Federal/State/Local council funding of major roads has resulted in a buck passing disaster. The time has come for a serious study into the whole transport/highway/motoring equation.

Would additional funding of railways pay a dividend? Would improving highways cost or save money? Would it save lives/reduce road trauma – dollar saving?

Shell are now delivering fuel by road rather than by rail. When the next Shell tanker has a major accident and causes havoc, (and it will take 7 per day to service Canberra) what will be the excuse? Apparently a price advantage of 1.5c per litre is to be had, because NSW Gov have canned a subsidy of this amount when fuel is transported by rail. And we watch as the local servo bumps up the price by 10c/litre on Thursdays?

It is unrealistic to ever expect the South Coast to have a rail line. But this should mean the road is built to as high a standard as possible to eliminate the danger of ‘accidents’ which have now claimed 4 lives during this one episode.

There are individual beaurocrats out there with blood on their hands, having succesfully argued against spending on this road. Rot in hell!

I just heard confirmation that the girls father passed away today from his injuries. So sad.

hmmm… everyone going off half-cocked as usual. Last I heard was an overtaker northbound caused the petrol tanker driver to take evasive action which resulted in losing control. But no official story to back that up, as with the posters above. The only reasson I mention it is as a counterpoint for post #9

How about bring in Federal laws that ban the use of trucks to transport goods within a certain radius of train stations. That way goods come in via rail & then trucks transport them within towns/cities. 1 train a day could support most areas & then collect goods & have them ready to send back the next day.

We could have a train along the coast to Eden & onto Victoria & reopen most closed lines.

But that will NEVER happen as long as the trucking companies give backhanders to politicians. Just as the same will stop GPS trackers.

According to more recent news reports, the truck driver let his vehicle drift to the wrong side of the road. It’d be fair to say that unless he had swereved to avoid something or had a mechanical failure of some kind, then driver distraction and/or fatuige would’ve almost certainly, played a major part in this crash.

Very sad indeed, my heart goes out.

My dad’s petrol tanker truck killed him at 27. I’m thankful no one else was involved.

The family in the car where the two girls died are reported to be from Ulladulla area according to The Canberra Times.

So tragic. My heart goes out to the bereaved families, and even more so to the seriously injured and their families who have only just started down what will be a long and difficult road.

Royal North Shore ICU staff and treatment are great – they are in good hands there but 80% burns will be incredibly tough and they will need a good dose of luck on their side. Spinal injuries, well what can I say :(…
